Our Story
Ying Stoller, the founder of Ying’s Cooking Club, is an Asian cooking instructor and cookbook author. Ying has been teaching Asian cooking for the last 10 years in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin and Illinois. She has also been featured in many radio and television programs (including ABC-7 and WGN-9 in Chicago), as well as many newspapers, including “The Daily Herald”. Ying has also demonstrated Asian cooking at the Taste of Chicago and Great American Cooking Expo.
This is her story:
“I came to this country pursuing my American Dream without any money in my pocket. I definitely have a story to tell.
I was born and grew up in Harbin, a major city in northeast China. In 1988, I came to the United States to pursue my MBA at the University of Toledo. By 1991, I was married and soon had three beautiful children. Cooking for my family quickly became a big part of my life. Using skills and techniques acquired from my parents and while working for the China International Travel Service, I made Asian meals that all my family and friends love.
Urged on by my friends, I started sharing my recipes and techniques by teaching at community centers and community colleges.
Upon the requests of my students, we self-published my cookbook 'Ying’s Chinese Cookbook, Authentic but Simple' which contains 115 recipes from all over China.
In 2007, we produced our first two cooking instructional DVDs- Sushi and Chinese Appetizers. Recently, we added the Stir Fry and Steaming DVDs to our list.
A year later, answering the need for quick home Asian cooking, Ying’s brand sauces were born. With these delicious no-MSG-added Asian sauces, Asian meals at home are now being prepared 'in no time'. They are delicious, healthy and economical.
Having now lived in both China and the U.S. for long periods of time, I have observed the differences between the two lifestyles. I recognized the need for helping people to eat healthier, especially in this country. The increasing awareness of nutrition and health, plus the desire to reduce expenses continue to motivate people to cook at home more and more.
In order for people to truly enjoy cooking Asian food, they need to have the satisfaction that it 'came out right'; that is, looking, smelling, and tasting authentic. This is the most common problem people experience when trying to cook Asian food without the proper techniques. That is why we launched this new business-Ying’s Cooking Club. My goal is to encourage people by showing them the 'how-to' of authentic Asian cooking and provide all the tools they need to make Asian cooking at home both a delight and a success. "
